"I 'washed' my hands"

Today was my last day of teaching summer school to the wonderful little ones that I have been teaching since March. In honor of that, let me share a little story with you.

Yesterday I went to the park with all of the special ed classes (all my kids) for a bbq. One of my students needed to go to the bathroom, so I walked him over to the bathroom and stood right outside. After a while I hear the toilet flush and then he doesn't come out of the stall for a few minutes, so I yell to him to see if he needs help, and he says yes. I walk in to open the stall door and see that his hands are soaking wet and he claims "washed my hands!"

Apparently, this precious little boy washes his hands in the toilet after he flushes, because the water looks clean?!?!?! UGH!!!!! I made him wash his hands three times with soap and water immediately.

Now this little guy really likes to hold hands, so my mind wanders to all of the times during the year that he held my hand while walking to and from class, and the times I have been standing with his teacher and aides waiting for the class to use the restroom and he always comes out with his hands dripping wet telling us "Washed my hands!"

Just a little reminder of the importance of hand sanitizer!
